MA 220 - Medical Documentation II


Credit Hours: 2

Students will learn computerized spreadsheet applications using Microsoft Excel for the medical office. Integrated applications using Word, PowerPoint, and Excel with linked and embedded objects will be practiced. A Microsoft PowerPoint medical research project must be presented. Medical dictation editing techniques are used to revise medical consultation letters and medical reports with emphasis on transcription style, formatting, spelling, punctuation, medical terminology, and abbreviations.

 

Course Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • apply knowledge of Microsoft Word to correctly proofread and edit medical dictation;
  • create and edit patient data on Excel worksheets;
  • perform calculations using formulas, functions, and absolute cell addresse;
  • link and embed Excel worksheets into Word and PowerPoint documents;
  • conduct medical research focusing on a condition or disease in the medical field;
  • create, edit and enhance a PowerPoint slide presentation based on a condition or disease; and
  • use Microsoft Excel to create and maintain an inventory of office supplies.


Prerequisites: MA 115, MA 119, MA 125 and BI 150 or BI 147.
