BT 241 - Laboratory for Production of BioPharmaceutical Products


Credit Hours: 1

This course will apply the theory from the co-requisite lecture course, BT 240, Production of BioPharmaceutical Products. In this capstone course, analytical procedures used in the characterization and separation of proteins will be covered. For capstone, the student will be required to create a protocol using these methods, and perform analysis to identify an unknown substance. Methods will include filtration, electrophoresis, spectrophotometry and chromatography. The student will required to present these findings to a faculty panel.

Course Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • perform laboratory analyses to identify and characterize proteins in biotechnology;
  • demonstrate proficiency in aseptic processing for cell culture in biotechnology;
  • demonstrate proficiency in performing analyses used in protein purification; and
  • establish proficiency in the ability to analyze data obtained from laboratory analysis for validity and troubleshoot and perform corrective measures where applicable to a technician level.
