MA 200 - Dynamics in Dementia


Credit Hours: 3

This course is designed to provide students with an understanding of issues related to Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia. Students entering a healthcare field will benefit from this course. It examines dementia as a medical and social phenomenon which influences brain function, human behavior, families, caregivers, healthcare systems, community resources and clinical research. Students will customize an Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia learning portfolio/reference manual using information provided by course hand-outs/other literature, panel discussions, and interviews with professionals. The goal of this course is not only to provide knowledge and depth regarding Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia, but to emphasize the importance of providing ethical and compassionate care. Students will use the Internet to access a wide range of resources to support their study.
Prerequisites: BI 149, EN 110 or permission of the instructor.
