AR 125 - Codes and Standards/Lab


Credit Hours: 3

A course combining an introduction to the profession of architecture and how the architect relates to the individual, the community and society, and how that parallels to the way codes govern construction based upon the study of the building code of New York State.

Course Outcomes
Upon completion of this course the student should be able to:

  • understand what the profession of architecture encompasses;
  • understand the architect’s responsibilities with respect to the profession, the individual, the community, and society in general and their relationship to one another;
  • understand the architect’s place in the construction industry;
  • understand the technician’s general responsibilities and duties in the profession;
  • understand the educational requirements for the profession and the relationship to the Architectural Technology Program;
  • understand and know the subject matter, sequence, and interdependency of the Architectural Technology Program;
  • understand the origin of codes and how they are used today; and
  • understand what codes are and their influence as it relates to the construction industry, the environment, and the public (society) in general.
