AR 160 - CAD Applications in Architecture/Lab

Credit Hours: 3

This course deals with the basic principle of using a CAD system in the architectural or design/build industry. Topics include: layers, dimensioning, x-referencing, creating blocks and templates, plotting and three dimensional design.

Course Outcomes
Upon completion of this course the student should be able to:

demonstrate knowledge of 2D AutoCAD commands/terminology, their functions and how they are applied in different applications;
understand and create some 2D CAD drawings for a basic residential wood frame structure;
demonstrate knowledge of 3D AutoCAD commands/terminology, their functions and how they are applied in different applications;
understand and create 3D animation drawings which will include building material finishes and furnishings;
develop a system of using CAD for more rapid and practical methods of drawing, storing and retrieving information as if in an office situation, such as a template drawing or typical detail;
identify and properly use Architectural graphic symbols, lines, cross-referencing, and vocabulary; and
perform advanced computer manipulations.
