BT 241 - Manufacturing of BioPharmaceuticals Lab Credit Hours: 1.5
This course will apply the theory learned in BT 241 to the process of protein production in a manufacturing facility. BT 241 is a co-requisite to BT 240. This laboratory will cover the common activities undertaken by industry for the production of mammalian therapeutics. Students will become familiar with workflows and equipment involved in biopharmaceutical manufacturing.
Course Outcomes Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- demonstrate an understanding of aseptic processing requirements for cell culture laboratory work in biotechnology;
- identify and recognize standard operating procedures and batch documentation similar to that used in industry;
- recognize and operate standard equipment utilized in biotechnology.
- describe the strategies used to generate and recover recombinant proteins; and
- review and analyze case studies of typical products developed in the biotechnology industry.
