EN 225 - Shakespeare

Study will include social, political and philosophical concepts of the time as they are reflected in Shakespeare’s writings. Students will study approximately nine of the plays and the sonnet cycle.

Course Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

demonstrate, thorugh written work and class discussion, the ability to analyze themes, genres, and topics common to William Shakespeare through the conventions and methods of the humanities;
demonstrate, through written work and class discussion, an understanding of the artistic processes and stylistic devices common to William Shakespeare, including both the conventions of Elizabethan drama and the relevant poetic conventions/techniques;
demonstrate, through written work and class discussion, an understanding of the impact of the biographical, historical, philosophical, and cultural context upon the writings of William Shakeseare; and
demonstrate, through written work and class discussion, an understanding of the importance and influence of Shakespeare’s works to the humanities.
