AU 162 - Automotive Engines Credit Hours: 2
A study of the automobile engine. Topics include theoretical operation, construction, practical repair and troubleshooting of the four-, six- and eight-cylinder internal combustion engine.
Course Outcomes Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:
- identify the location and function of all components in an internal combustion engine.
- using measuring devices to determine which components in an engine are defective and need to be replaced or repaired.
- understand repair procedures for machine shop functions related to the internal combustion engine. These include the reconditioning of crankshafts, connecting rods, cylinder heads and engine blocks.
- use the service manual to explain the proper procedures to reassemble an engine OHV/OHC. This includes timing, torque specs, and any special/unique steps specific to that engine.
