GC 101 - Print Production I


Credit Hours: 2

Identify the basic concepts and industry practices of commercial offset lithographic print production. Apply practical press and bindery procedures to produce a commercially acceptable one and two- color projects for inclusion in portfolio.

Course Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. indicate and apply knowledge of relevant OSHA standards, environmental protection, and safety procedures;
  2. list and describe the 6 major printing processes, noting their similarities and differences;
  3. identify and describe the purpose of the 6 major systems on a sheetfed offset lithographic printing press;
  4. list and apply the process of producing an analog metal lithographic printing plate;
  5. operate a single-color duplicator, demonstrating the ability to print a basic project without major quality defects;
  6. list and describe the major components and operating procedures of a guillotine paper cutter and demonstrate the ability to safely adjust and operate;
  7. calculate standard mathematical solutions commonly found in a print/bindery environment
  8. demonstrate an ability to operate and maintain a variety of printing/bindery equipment
