AU 262 - Automotive Fuel and Emissions


Credit Hours: 2

The usage of modern testing techniques and equipment for diagnosing and servicing the fuel and emission systems.

Course Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • recognize the purpose and operation of components in the PCV, EVAP, AIR, CAT, EGR, and emission control systems;
  • Identify which general problem areas could cause excessive HC and CO emissions;
  • understand the basic operation of the microprocessor, the concept of closed-loop engine control, the necessity for precise control of air/fuel ratios, and the operation of the oxygen sensor and other engine sensors;
  • understand the operation of the fuel system, its components, and types; and
  • understand the manufacturer’s diagnostic procedures and equipment needs.
