AO 105 - Major Automotive Systems Credit Hours: 3
This lecture/lab course will introduce students to the major automotive systems in modern vehicles. A great emphasis will be made regarding inspection, diagnosis, and basic repair techniques of major automotive systems. This course will focus on the foundational skills necessary for entry-level employment in the automotive industry.
Course Outcomes Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
- recognize, describe and label common major automotive systems;
- use service information and automotive tools to identify plausible failures of most automotive systems.;
- summarize diagnostic findings and recommend repairs according to the manufacturer’s specifications or industry standards;
- demonstrate the proper replacement of engine, HVAC, transmission/driveline, and electrical/electronic system components;
- describe and document major system repairs and service work in ways that are consistent with automotive industry standards, highlighting the complaint, cause, and correction; and
- implement the use of modern scan tool technology and service information to begin diagnosing and repairing major systems.
