AT 220 - Photography I


Credit Hours: 3

This course is a basic introduction to photography. The student will learn about camera operations, lenses, meters, lighting, black-and-white film development, and print making using darkroom techniques. Group discussions and critiques concerning the history of photography, and contemporary and conceptual practices will also be a focus of this course. Lab fee. Single lens manual 35mm camera required.

Course Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. understand the function of the essential parts of a 35mm camera;
  2. demonstrate the working process involving the camera, film, and darkroom by applying the proper sequence and procedure for developing and printing photographic images;
  3. solve various photographic problems by utilizing the camera, film, and darkroom;
  4. understand fundamental concepts of visual problem-solving, image design, and composition;
  5. think and communicate fluently in regard to technical and conceptual aspects of photographic practice; and
  6. explore photography as a form of visual expression.
