BM 210 - Commercial Air Conditioning Systems


Credit Hours: 3

This course will cover the principles of air conditioning as applied to larger commercial equipment. The theory, installation, and operations of air and water source heat pumps, gas and electric rooftop units, and make-up air units will be reviewed. Ventilation, economizers, and exhaust theory and practices will also be discussed.

Course Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. apply the understanding of basic parts and principles relating to specific commercial equipment;
  2. classify and identify the components of specific commercial equipment and find replacement parts;
  3. demonstrate the effect improper operation of any component has on overall system operation;
  4. recognize the operations and troubleshooting procedures for commercial equipment;
  5. demonstrate an awareness of the process for field estimating repairs and replacements of commercial equipment; and
  6. analyze and identify the specific controls used in commercial systems and explain their function and operation within the system.
