CA 220 - Introduction to Broadcasting


Credit Hours: 3

The course will introduce the student to broadcasting technology, history, infrastructure, programming and regulation. The content of television and radio will be analyzed as a component of student research.

Course Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. describe highlights of the history of broadcasting;
  2. understand audio/video signal generation, processing, transmission, reception, storage, and retrieval;
  3. define and outline the organizational structure of the broadcast industry;
  4. explain broadcast regulation;
  5. compare and contrast the effects of electronic mass media; and
  6. understand the process and strategies of broadcast programming.
