CH 241 - Analytical Chemistry Laboratory


Credit Hours: 1.0

This laboratory course provides an introduction to the experimental techniques involved in quantitative chemical analysis.  Topics will include: volumetric determinations, potentiometric titrations, selective electrochemical analysis, spectrophotometric analysis, and chromatographic separation.

Course Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. apply practical hands-on knowledge of the following chemical principles and be able to apply them to solve quantitative chemical problems:
  2. statistical methods for chemical analysis;
  3. computer use in the chemical laboratory;
  4. aqueous solution chemistry;
  5. titrimetric methods involving acid/base, complexation, and redox techniques; and
  6. electrochemical methods such as potentiometry & electrogravimetry.
