CI 210 - Materials Testing Credit Hours: 3
A combination lecture and lab course dealing with the mechanical and physical properties of construction material in accordance with standard specifications. Dealing with the design and control of concrete mixes; the study of water-cement ratio, proper curing of concrete and non-destructive testing. In addition, tension, compression, and flexure tests are conducted upon concrete, steel, masonry, plastic, and wood specimens. Digital computers are used for problem solving as well as written reports.
Course Outcomes Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- understand terminology and unit measurements related to engineering properties and testing of construction materials;
- implementing measurement equipment according to ASTM for standard testing methods of construction materials; and
- evaluate the results of standard testing methods of construction materials.
