CI 255 - Highway Design Credit Hours: 3
An introduction to the planning and design of modern highway systems. Topics to be covered include: highway administration, soil mechanics relating to sub-grades and base courses, highway drainage, design of pavements and materials, and geometrical design of highways. The lab portion of the class includes design and calculations relating to basic highway design projects with integration of digital computer programs for problem-solving in specific projects.
Course Outcomes Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- utilize the elements of AutoCAD Civil 3D to create computer contract drawings for construction and/or engineering for road and highway design;
- demonstrate the relationship between surveying and layout/design of road and highway systems; and
- understand the basic elements of road and highway design and demonstrate the engineering design requirements using current design procedures.
Prerequisites: CI 175 Concurrent Registration: CI 165 F/S (N)
