MA 125 - Medical Terminology II


Credit Hours: 3

This continuation course is designed to provide prospective allied health professionals further understanding of medical terminology. Anatomic and physiologic terminology, pathologic terminology, clinical procedures, laboratory tests, abbreviations, and correct spelling and pronunciation of medical terms relating to the body systems are stressed in a body systems approach to studying the respiratory, hematologic, lymphatic, musculoskeletal, integumentary, ophthalmic, optic and endocrine systems along with specialized areas of oncology, radiology, nuclear medicine, radiation therapy, pharmacology, and psychiatry.

Course Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. identify and define word components (prefixes, suffixes, and word roots);
  2. describe the structural organization of the human body;
  3. analyze and define medical terms and abbreviations related to body systems;
  4. identify body systems and the anatomical location of major organs in each body system;
  5. describe the normal structure and function of human body systems;
  6. identify the signs, symptoms, and etiology of common pathologies associated with each system, including diagnosis and treatment modalities; and
  7. demonstrate understanding of medical terms used in context.


Prerequisites: MA 115 or pass MA 115 Challenge Exam
