ML 227 - Immunohematology II Lab


Credit Hours: 1

Immunohematology II Lab is a Continuation of ML 217, Immunohematology Lab I. Discussions and laboratory procedures will include general transfusion practices, the resolution of ABO and Rh discrepancies, identification procedures of red cell antibodies, transfusion practices involving incompatibilities and the laboratory investigation of the positive DAT, HDN and hemolytic anemia.

Course Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. Identify, judge, and differentiate types of ABO discrepancies and suggest methods to resolve these discrepancies. (C, TL III, PC 5)
  2. Competently perform procedures for antibody detection and identification of single and multiple antibodies and discuss the resolution to discrepancies. (P, TL III, PC 2, 4, 5, 6, 7)
  3. Perform and discuss the positive DAT and how autoimmune hemolytic anemia and drug interactions can affect the results. (P, TL III, PC 2, 4, 5, 6, 7)
