PS 100 - General Psychology


Credit Hours: 3

Topics may include but are not limited to the nature of psychology as a science, statistical analysis, biological foundations of behavior, sensation, perception, conditioning and learning, motivation, cognitive processes, reactions to frustration, and mental health.

Course Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. explain and appraise psychology as a science and correct common misconceptions about the field;
  2. describe and compare the scientific methods used in psychological research;
  3. define, name, and describe psychological terminology, recognize researchers who have shaped the field and current research;
  4. develop critical thinking skills;
  5. explain the basic concepts of biological, sensory, and perceptual processes underlying behavior;
  6. name and describe the basic concepts of learning, memory, thinking, intelligence, and human development;
  7. name and describe the basic concepts of motivation, emotions, personality, abnormal behavior, and therapies;
  8. recognize and have an appreciation for the complexity and diversity of human behavior; and
  9. apply psychological concepts and finding to everyday life.
