SA 114 - Treatment Population


Credit Hours: 3

This course examines several specific treatment populations, e.g., adolescents, the elderly, women, minorities, and persons with other concurrent mental health issues, along with techniques for addressing the needs of these particular groups. This course provides an overview of the various Special Topics courses.

Course Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. be able to demonstrate an understanding of the concept of multiculturalism and how this concept is interrelated with chemical dependency treatment and recovery;
  2. demonstrate knowledge of the range of backgrounds and experiences of various chemically dependent minority treatment populations;
  3. demonstrate a basic understanding of effective treatment approaches and techniques to assist persons with chemical dependency in different cultural and minority groups; and
  4. demonstrate increased insight into their prejudices, positive or negative, and how and when these prejudices were incorporated into their frames of reference regarding different minority groups.
