PB 212 - Supervised Field Training (sworn officers only - elective)


Credit Hours: 4

After successfully completing all instructional aspects of the Police Basic Certificate, officers (recruits) are required to satisfactorily demonstrate the practical application of information and skills learned.   This training is performed under the guidance of a qualified Field Training Officer, certified by both the Law Enforcement Training Academy and the New York State Department of Criminal Justice Services. 

Course Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. demonstrate acceptable performance in 13 different performance areas including community interaction, apprehension/intervention, victim/prisoner interaction, processing arrests, etc.;
  2. acceptable performance meeting 15 different/identifiable behavioral dimensions, including ethics, comprehension skills, communication skills, judgments, etc.;
  3. understand and demonstrate how to de-escalate a tense situation; 
  4. acceptable performance of the basic functions of a police officer required by their department; and
  5. understanding and utilization of good interpersonal skills.


Prerequisites: Completion of the Police Basic Certificate and sworn hired police officer.
