CT 230 - Collision Chassis Systems Credit Hours: 5
This lecture/lab course will introduce students to the foundational knowledge and skills necessary for employment in an automotive collision facility. Topics will include the theory, diagnosis, and service of base brake systems, brake hydraulic components, suspension/steering systems, wheels/tires, and alignments.
Course Outcomes Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- describe the theory and operation of base and hydraulic brake systems;
- utilize service information to diagnose and service vehicle under-car components;
- inspect, repair, and replace vehicle brake, suspension, and steering components;
- develop safe working habits when dealing with automotive under-car systems;
- perform tire inspections, repairs, and mounting/balancing on various types of tire equipment;
- demonstrate proper alignment procedures, including measuring, interpreting measurements, and performing corrective adjustments according to the manufacturer’s recommendations; and
- recommend and properly document repairs outside of normal alignment adjustments to correct suspension and steering concerns caused by collision damage.
