AR 170 - Architecture I/Lab


Credit Hours: 3

A lecture/lab class continuing the production of working drawings for complex domestic structures. Programming, design, detailing and mechanics are introduced with the whole project reflecting code application and compliance along with some basic principles of cost estimating for residential construction. The lab is for instruction and production of working drawings for complex domestic structures.

Course Outcomes
Upon completion of this course the student should be able to:

  • understand and employ basic framing procedures used in residential construction;
  • understand and draw some of the working drawings for a basic residential wood frame structure;
  • identify and properly use Architectural graphic symbols, lines, cross-referencing, and vocabulary;
  • letter legibly in a style compatible with the production of Architectural working drawings;
  • use reference materials necessary for proper design applications; 
  • apply necessary building codes; and
  • present to a group their thoughts and design in a clear and precise manner.
