GL 160 - Physical Geology


Credit Hours: 4

A study of the methods of formation and modification of the Earth. Topics include composition of the crust, external processes, erosion, structural geology, minerals and rocks. There may be field trips scheduled. GL 160 with GL 161 satisfies the lecture laboratory requirements for science and non-science majors.

Fulfills SUNY General Education – Natural Sciences.

Course Outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to

  • explain and demonstrate the basic laws of nature;
  • explain and apply the laws of nature as they pertain to society and the environment;
  • use basic mathematical skills and techniques in solving problems;
  • solve problems utilizing computers; and
  • write comprehensive answers to qualitative questions.
