Program Description

The Associate in Science degree in Business: Business Administration is a program which includes core business courses and a significant number of general education courses. This program integrates the unique requirements of both two-year and four-year institutions.

The program’s primary objective is to attract from local high schools those students who are primarily interested in a career in business and who realize that they must ultimately transfer to a four-year institution to complete their course of study. It enables the recently graduated high school student who has expressed an interest in business to remain near home and experience small classes in a very personalized academic environment for the first two years of his or her post-high school education, following which the student will proceed to a four-year institution as a junior.

Students who enroll in this program will be fully prepared to transfer to a four-year college upon graduation. They will have taken all of the prerequisites necessary to make the transfer process an easy one.

This degree is not intended to provide vocational preparation for entry into the labor force upon graduation. Therefore, all students in this program should begin planning, upon enrollment at ECC, where they intend to transfer for the last two years.

Transfer Agreements

Erie Community College’s Business Administration Department has transfer agreements with most area colleges. The agreements facilitate the transfer of ECC business graduates into the four-year schools. They include Alfred University, Buffalo State College, SUNY at Buffalo, D’Youville College, SUNY College at Fredonia, Canisius College, Daemen College, Hilbert College, Houghton College, Medaille College and Niagara University, as well as Thames Valley University in London, England and European University in Antwerp, Belgium.

Program Competencies

Upon graduating with an Associate in Science degree in Business: Business Administration, the student will be able to:

  • Be prepared to enter employment upon graduation in the business field
  • Transfer to a business or accounting program at a four-year college/university
  • Speak and write clearly and correctly
  • Read critically and think logically
  • Understand the basic concepts of business
  • Have a sufficient foundation in mathematics to be prepared to take additional courses in mathematics, accounting and business
  • Use a computer in academic and business settings
  • Demonstrate a firm foundation in business theory
  • Work effectively in a group setting

Although this program primarily prepares the student for transfer to another college, the rigorous preparation will enable the student to work in a business environment while pursuing a four-year degree.
