Program Description

The Computer Applications for the Office certificate program provides students with office and computer skills to meet the workplace needs in Western New York. Students develop entry-level office and computer skills or upgrade their current skills for employment or advancement. Students who complete the required computer courses may qualify to take the Microsoft Office Specialist certification exams.

The certificate also provides opportunities for lifelong learning, transfer preparation, career enhancement and job placement by offering coursework that is continuously assessed, serves the needs of a diverse student population and facilitates the acquisition of general education competencies necessary for competing in a changing economic climate. Courses completed in the Computer Applications for the Office program can be applied to a degree in Office Management or Liberal Arts and Science—General Studies. The certificate allows students to complete the required courses through distance learning or in a traditional seated classroom.

Program Competencies

Upon graduation with a certificate in Computer Applications for the Office, the graduate will be able to:

  • Utilize current software programs for word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentations, communications, graphics and operating system applications
  • Be skilled in new and emerging technology including use of the Internet, intranets, e-mail and Web site design
  • Apply appropriate mathematical procedures and quantitative methods

  • Demonstrate the ability to read critically
