Program Description
The Office Assistant program certificate program is for the student who wants to attain new skills or update skills. Training will be conducted on state-of-the-art equipment and software.
The program is intended to prepare students for entry-level office positions in both the public and private sector.
For students desiring on-the-job experience, an internship course may be available. A prior business background is not essential.
Program Competencies
Upon graduation with an Office Assistant certificate, the graduate will be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of the computer and keyboarding equipment to produce and format documents for mailable copy
- Utilize current software programs for word processing, spreadsheets and databases
- Demonstrate an understanding of the communication process and its role in verbal and nonverbal interpersonal communications
- Develop communication skills essential for securing an office position
- Transcribe letters, reports and other documents from various methods of input to produce mailable copy with appropriate grammar, punctuation and layout
- Keyboard at 40 net words per minute
- Keyboard and format office documents from rough draft copy
- Perform basic arithmetic operations, with or without a calculator
- Apply basic arithmetic functions to business problems.
- Demonstrate problem-solving abilities by applying technical skills to office situations
