Program Description

The Industrial Technology Program provides training for:

  • CNC Machining and Programming; and 
  • General/Custom Technology Degrees
    • Quality/Manufacturing

Goals of the Program

  • To offer the Industrial Technology Program to employees in local industry to fulfill their need for training bearing degree credit in the pursuit of career objectives.
  • To offer an entry mode and career path for secondary school students who cannot go directly into apprenticeships or similar skilled positions in industry.
  • To offer opportunities for dislocated workers and persons changing careers to enter new positions that would otherwise be inaccessible.
  • To offer a program option that is suitable for diverse industries of the region.
  • To provide a means by which local industry can meet growing needs to replace skilled tradesmen, many of whom are now or soon will be of retirement age.

Special Admission Requirements/Prerequisites

All new students must meet all the criteria for admission, including but not limited to, holding a high school diploma or High School Equivalency (HSE) and taking the ACT/ASSET placement test and achieving certain levels of competency. If minimal levels of competency are not demonstrated in math and English, remedial courses may be needed to improve the students’ chances for success.

Program Competencies

Upon completion of an Associate in Occupational Studies degree in Industrial Technology, graduates will be able to:

  • utilize industrial technology concepts and practices in current drawing standards;
  • write correctly and effectively;
  • read critically and think logically;
  • apply basic workplace computational procedures and quantitative analysis;
  • produce technical sketches and drawings;
  • illustrate knowledge of technical concepts and standards;
  • apply processes and materials used by industry;
  • demonstrate an understanding of fundamental manufacturing methods, industrial processes and safe use of equipment;
  • apply technical concepts, industrial processes and principles as required; and 
  • apply general technical drafting and design principles.


Total Degree Credits: 60.0 - 62.0

General Technology custom degrees include options in Quality Control, Management and Skilled Trades. Students may select from the following pathways:

  • CNC Machining and Programming; and
  • General/Custom Technology
    • Quality/Manufacturing


All degrees require:

  1. General Education courses
  2. Technical Core courses
  3. Electives

Total for all three credit areas: 60 – 61 Credit Hours

Pathway General Technology (Custom Degrees)

  • General Education courses (18 Credit Hours, listed above )
  • Industrial Technology core courses (16 Credit Hours listed above )
  • Technical and Liberal Arts electives selected by advisement:
    Technical electives (select 17 to 27 Credit Hours)
    Liberal Arts electives (select 0 to 10 Credit Hours)

A student may fulfill the technology elective requirement with any technology degree level course offered through the Technologies Division, subject to adviser approval. Also, students may be granted credit for non-credit courses, workplace training programs and on-the-job experience (ECC LEAP Program) per evaluation and approval of the Industrial Technology Department.

Liberal Arts Electives (select 0 to 10 cr)

Social Science/Humanities electives may be selected from any of the following courses:
