Program Description
There has been and continues to be a need for well-trained legal medical professional consultants who come from a medical professional background and have basic knowledge of how our legal system works.
The Legal Medical Professional Consultant Certificate Program offers Registered Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, and Physician’s Assistants the opportunity to obtain working knowledge of law office practices and procedures in a legal/medical position. This program has been structured to include law courses and a course in medical legal ethics.
The goal of this certificate program is to prepare students to conduct thorough medical records reviews and write medical legal chronologies to be used by law firms, insurance companies and other similar health related businesses.
Upon completion of the Legal Medical Professional Consultant Certificate, students will be able to:

explain the American Legal System, and how it relates to the Constitution, federal and state law, and the role of a Legal Medical Professional Consultant;

recognize and apply legal terminology used in a law office or a legal medical setting, and apply rules of practice and procedure in a civil action.;

use a computer to do basic legal research, demonstrate the ability to find law, and apply facts to draft a thorough, detailed medical legal chronology; and
-
learn basic rules of Evidence, Discovery and Document Retrieval and be able to define and explain Substantive and Procedural Rules of Tort Law to illustrate steps in a civil litigation.
