Program Description

In this age of computer-enhanced, technology filled automobiles, the modern automotive technician must be knowledgeable in many areas to be successful. These changes in auto technology have expanded the need for entry automotive technicians.

The objective of the Automotive Technology Program (ATP) is to prepare graduates for the challenges of the auto industry. Either on a full-time or part-time basis during the day or evening, students in this program develop entry level automotive skills to work within this changing industry. The curriculum provides both theoretical and practical knowledge. Students learn about vehicle maintenance services, brakes, steering, suspension, electrical systems, engine performance, and repair facility operations. Coursework is complemented with many hours of hands-on experience in a fully equipped, up-to-date facility.

Graduates of the Automotive Technology Certificate Program are eligible for positions as entry level technicians, parts associates, service writers, or salespersons.

General automotive technology students work on live vehicles and components as supplied by the school and the students themselves for employer-recommended real-life experiences.
