MA 220 - Medical Documentation II


Credit Hours: 2

 

Students will learn computerized spreadsheet applications using Microsoft Excel for the medical office.

Students must complete a Microsoft PowerPoint medical research project. Medical transcription techniques are used to transcribe medical business letters, chart notes, procedure reports, x-ray reports, consultations, and history & physical exam reports with emphasis on medical transcription style/formatting, spelling, punctuation, medical terminology and abbreviations.

Course Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to demonstrate the following skills:

  • apply knowledge of Microsoft Word to correctly format dictated medical documents and reports;
  • transcribe medical records;
  • create and edit patient data on Excel worksheet;
  • perform calculations using formulas, functions, and absolute cell addresses; and
  • conduct medical research and create, edit and enhance a slide presentation using MS PowerPoint, focusing on a condition or disease in the medical field.


Prerequisites: BI 150, BI 152, MA 115, MA 125 and MA 119
