Program Description
The goal of the Brewing Science and Service Certificate Program is to provide graduates with necessary educational coursework and skills to enter into the varied employment opportunities in the industry. The curriculum will prepare graduates for employment in the expanding brewing, microbrewing, and brewpub industries. Hands-on training along with theoretical courses will enhance student knowledge in this specialized field, which includes: brewing technology, operations, sales and management, and advanced beer-related or brewery-related business sectors.
Program Competencies
- Demonstrate the technical skills necessary to manage a brewing operation at entry-level of brewer/manager.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the laws that regulate the brewing industry.
- Apply sanitation fundamentals and safety regulations as they apply to the brewing industry.
- Apply fundamental knowledge of beer ingredients and recipes.
- Demonstrate technical skills needed to brew beer.
- Determine qualities of specific types and styles of beer.
- Demonstrate an understanding of tasting, judging, and evaluating beer.
- Demonstrate computer literacy pertaining to the brewing industry.
Special Admissions Requirements/Prerequisites
Student must successfully complete HR125, HR126, HR127, HR128, HR129 before taking HR132.
