GC 102 - Digital Illustration


Credit Hours: 3

Explore the creation and use of illustrated vector images in the areas of advertising design using the industry standard software. Identify the different types of mediums, terms used, and roles in the advertising industry. Create an advertising campaign in a variety of media and formats using the design process to produce professional quality prints and digital content.

Course Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. identify differences between raster and vector files;
  2. identify advertising design and digital illustration terminology;
  3. employ the basic tools and skills for creating vector images, layouts, and manipulating type in an illustration software program;
  4. create an illustration or logo using spot color, Pantone Matching System (PMS) or other color matching system;
  5. apply design, layout and pre-press standard practices and the organization of information from initial concept to final production; and
  6. produce a variety of advertising media in a campaign worthy of inclusion in a portfolio.
