GC 152 - Graphic Design Essentials


Credit Hours: 3

Learn the principles of graphic design and its relationship to typography and layout for digital and print media. Develop the ability to generate ideas to create dynamic compositions, including packaging design and brand identity projects from concept to final presentation. Develop and create a variety of visual design projects while gaining knowledge of working with a design brief. Completed assignments are designed to be included in student portfolio.

Course Outcomes
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:

  1. identify the history of graphic design in the 20th century to the present-day trends and recognizing their effect on advertising and print media today;
  2. create 3-d package mockups;
  3. create and present ideas visually utilizing vector graphics, demonstrating craftsmanship and communicating effectively through typography;
  4. demonstrate the principles of layout and graphic design; and
  5. create projects for presentation and inclusion in a portfolio.
