GC 203 - Direct Marketing


Credit Hours: 3

Learn the basics of database design, mailing list development and merging of static document components with variable elements developed from database management and VDP software. Gain insight into the project mix and capabilities as they relate to transactional, promotional and trans-promotional materials. Create digital and variable data projects relating to direct marketing and digital printing.

Course Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. create projects using basic advertising and marketing concepts;
  2. identify and define the design process as it relates to US Postal requirements;
  3. interpret database development, manipulation and preparation for VDP and identify how data is generated, collected and used;
  4. define the production stages in variable data publishing;
  5. define the system components in a variable data print and publish workflow and the levels of VDP;
  6. develop and create personalized products by merging static document elements from a page layout template and variable document elements imported from a database for digital and print media.
