AU 260 - Alignment and Suspension


Credit Hours: 2

Modern testing techniques and the use of equipment for diagnosing servicing the steering and suspension systems.

Course Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • understand the terminology and concepts associated with steering, suspension and alignment of an automobile including but not limited to Camber, Caster, Toe, Steering Axis Inclination and Toe Out on turns and how they affect the stability of an automobile.
  • understand the function and operation of front suspension systems and any applicable terminology.
  • understand the function and operation of rear suspension systems and any applicable terminology.
  • describe the operation and function of the steering systems of automobiles. This will include but not be limited to conventional and rack and pinion steering gears; power steering pumps, hoses and lines; steering columns and four wheel steering.
  • understand the function, operation and diagnosis of wheel bearings, wheels, tires, dynamic and static balance and the possible problems associated with them.
