EN 141 - Creative Writing II Credit Hours: 3
This is a workshop in creative writing with an emphasis on the preparation of manuscripts for publication. Individual projects particularly directed toward college publications will be an integral part of the course.
Course Outcomes Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- recognize and utilize the major elements of a short story: style, character, setting, point of view, plot, structure, and theme;
- recognize, explicate, and utilize contemporary versions of traditional poetic forms such as the sonnet, the villanelle, the sestina, and the pantoum;
- recognize and utilize the elements of drama: materials of dramatic production, conventions of theater, and practical writing techniques;
- demonstrate the ability to produce, critique, and revise texts in these genres; and
- prepare for publication, including researching potential publishers, communicating with editors, and the preparation of final manuscripts.
Prerequisites: Permission of the instructor. Does not require EN 140. F/S (C, N, S)
