EN 296 - The Bible as Literature Credit Hours: 3
A study of selections from the Hebrew and Greek testaments, exploring the historical and literary use of the Bible as a text and in other literature.
Course Outcomes Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- use and define terminology relevant to the genres included in Biblical literature (such as parable, psalm, epistle);
- demonstrate, through written work and class discussion, a knowledge of the historical and literary importance of Biblical literature;
- demonstrate, through written work and class discussion, an ability to analyze a section of the Bible through the conventions and methods of the humanities;
- demonstrate, through written work and class discussion, a comprehension of the interrelatedness of content and form (prophecy, parable, etc.) in a section of the Bible; and
- demonstrate, through written work and class discussion, an understanding of the major artistic techniques employed in the various Biblical genres.
