FR 111 - Elementary French II Credit Hours: 4
Language as heard and spoken; development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing; five class hours weekly with regular drill. French 111 is a second-semester course after beginning French 110. In fully seated courses students go to the language lab one hour weekly (instructor monitored) and one or more individual laboratory attendances are required.
Course Outcomes Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- comprehend and utilize fundamental vocabulary in speech, reading, and writing;
- utilize basic grammatical structures of the language;
- understand, read, and write basic French;
- speculate about the future, relate sentences in a more complex fashion, and write brief, coherent, and correct paragraphs on simple topics that recognize the cultural diversity of the people who speak the language; and
- use appropriate greetings and farewells, ask simple questions about daily matters, and respond correctly (both orally and in writing) to questions about one’s own life and opinions, as well as those of others.
Prerequisites: FR 110 Cycles (N)
The course is intended for two types of students: those with up to three years of high school French who did not take or did not pass the third-year NYS Regents; or those who successfully completed FR 110.
