LE 255 - Crisis (Hostage) Negotiations Credit Hours: 2
This course, structured as a seminar, is designed to provide the negotiator with the fundamentals of negotiations, the role of the first responder, the tactical role of the negotiator, active listening skills, the concepts of abnormal psychology, and other skills essential to neutralizing a bad situation in which lives are in potential jeopardy.
Course Outcomes Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- define the philosophy of crisis negotiation;
- explain the types of situations in which a skilled negotiator may be able to de fuse a potentially bad situation;
- illustrate core negotiation concepts;
- list the priorities to be identified and implemented when arriving at the scene of an incident; and
- note common errors created by negotiators.
