PE 104 - Outdoor/Adventure Education


Credit Hours: 3

This course is designed to develop and enhance the student’s skill level in the outdoors, while also encouraging the student to develop an understanding of a wide variety of outdoor activities.  Canoeing, orienteering, rock climbing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, knot tying, hiking, trip planning, cooking, storytelling, skits, songs, fire building, gear evaluation and selection, and more could be included (weather and season permitting). This course requires students to attend off-campus field experiences outside of class time. A schedule of the field experiences will be provided in the first week of class.

Course Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • plan outdoor/adventure experiences;
  • properly demonstrate a variety of outdoor/adventure skills;
  • identify and be able to make educated decisions regarding equipment and supplies used in the outdoor/adventure field for both personal and professional use; and
  • understand and discuss topics pertinent to outdoor education.
