HT 120 - Health and Wellness Professions


Credit Hours: 3

This course is designed to provide an overview of health and wellness.  It presents theories and strategies to help the student develop the skills required to provide effective health programs in the community.  In addition, this course will provide an understanding and value of health information to assist the community in adopting a healthy lifestyle.

Course Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • identify the keywords and terms - health, health education, health promotion, disease prevention, epidemiology, community health, global health, population health, and wellness and define them and their relationship to health and wellness;
  • chronicle the emerging profession to include its history, philosophical foundation, and role and responsibilities as related to the field of health and wellness;
  • explain the mechanism of assessing the health status of the individual, as well as the community, including life expectancy, years of potential life lost, health-adjusted life expectancy, and health-related quality of life; and
  • identify various settings for health education and health promotion programs such as coordinated school health, public/community health, worksite, and health care settings.
