EN 291 - English Internship Credit Hours: 3
The internship is to be taken in the final semester of the English degree program, only if the student chooses not to opt for the Capstone course at that time. Students will work with a local business or organization related to the art of written communication, and/or literary knowledge, or possibly, publication. The internship will be comprised of approximately 135 hours of work, supervised by professionals in the field and the professor. Students will be expected to take on responsibilities such as composing written memos, messages, articles, etc., applying research methods when requested to locate information and/or sources, editing and revising written material and performing other communication and literature-related tasks required in that business or organization. This will allow students to learn more about their chosen field, and the professional skills required in the workplace.

Course Outcomes Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- recognize the general expectations in the workplace of a student with an A.A. in English;
- apply knowledge of research methods to work-related assignments;
- apply effective drafting, writing, and revision skills to work-related assignments;
- gain an understanding of the specific type of organization or business for which they are interning, enhancing their ability to work in that field professionally; and
- produce an essay that clearly identifies the skills and knowledge, as well as the benefits found, in the internship experience.
