The Collision Technology A.O.S. degree qualifies graduates for employment as collision technicians, painters, damage estimators, shop managers, detailers, and paint/body repair product manufacturers. Today’s modern vehicles are highly technical pieces of equipment with the implementation of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), and this increases the demand for highly trained technicians is in the collision industry. Technicians need to properly, and safely, restore the collision damaged vehicles to pre-accident condition and further, assure that all the safety systems are still working and in place. The program will provide these skills through combination of coursework completed in lecture, coupled with hands-on experience either in labs at SUNY Erie or through internship opportunities at local automotive collision facilities. The program provides students with the knowledge, experience, and technical skills needed to properly repair collision damaged vehicles and attain a successful career in the dynamic, progressive automotive collision industry.
The ICAR Professional Development Program (PDP) curriculum is infused throughout the coursework and upon graduation, students will be certified as Pro Level I and II in both Refinish and Non-Structural Technicians, and ICAR certified in Steel GMA Welding. These certifications will improve the students’ employability and allow them to enter the industry with the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to fulfill the requirements of today’s technicians.
Upon graduation with an Associate in Occupational Studies (A.O.S.) degree in the field of Collision Technology, the student will be able to:
