GC 150 - Publication Design


Credit Hours: 3

A comprehensive overview of the theory and operation of page layout software for print media. Identify essential elements to the production of high-end printed work. Create and produce projects utilizing features of the industry standard page layout software; projects may include publication design, advertising layouts, brochure and menu options.

Course Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. design and produce a document using desired fonts; styles; margins; indents; tabs; and, colors;
  2. proofread and edit using common editing marks. Make corrections/adjustments to project;
  3. create multiple page documents using text blocks; graphics; frames; and headings using drop caps and text wrap options;
  4. create documents using grids; templates; master pages; paragraph style sheets; and character style sheets;
  5. set text with appropriate margins; formatting; gutters; and, proper leading Preflight and package a native file;
  6. create a print-ready Portable Document Format (PDF) using page layout software; and
  7. identify trim size; bleed size; and, live area of a project.
