Course Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  1. articulate proper industry terminology in the context of various print & finishing operations in manufacturing;
  2. illustrate the ability to calculate and convert using mathematical methods used in printing, for estimating and costing of labor and material reporting;
  3. list and differentiate substrate properties, both optical and physical, such as size, weight, thickness, whiteness, brightness, gloss, opacity and printability;
  4. produce plates using Computer-to-Plate (CtP) in a PDF workflow;
  5. indicate a working knowledge of pressroom chemistry and mixing regarding materials commonly found in print manufacturing;
  6. list and differentiate lithographic ink properties and compare and contrast these to other printing technology inks;
  7. produce commercially acceptable offset lithographic print projects efficiently and economically, emphasizing print quality and minimizing waste and defects;
  8. differentiate buckle folder setup between single and multiple plate folds.  Program a computerized guillotine paper cutter to utilize preset programs placed in memory to increased cutter efficiency.
